On Asgard, there was no such thing as soulmates.
There didn’t need to be. Anyone who wasn’t committed to one person for their roughly five thousand year lifespan shacked up with any willing individual they pleased whenever the fancy struck them. It was simply the way of things for the Aesir, had been for as long as anyone could remember, and it worked well for them. There was no need to envy the Vanir, with their silvery tattoos that turned gold with the right touch. Nor did they care for Midgardians, who spent their early years bare, only to develop words on their skin upon reaching adulthood. Why would they need all of that

JANE'S BAD DAY
That morning, Jane woke up to a cloudless sky at ten thirty on the dot, which would have been fine if she hadn’t set her alarm to go off at eight fifteen.
Rolling around with a frizzy mess of bed hair, Jane grabbed her phone from the night stand. Clicking the buttons produced nothing but a blank screen.
“How the hell did I forget to charge this thing?’ Jane threw it aside with a groan. “Now I only have twenty minutes to get ready for the meeting.’
Jane jumped out of bed, not thinking about the sheets still tangled around her ankles. Her foot snagged, and Jane plunged forward with a yelp. N

SIX MONTHS LATER
“So, Jane, it appears that in the four and a half years you lived here, you started a collection of... candy wrappers! How very interesting.”
Darcy rummaged around in the open space behind Jane’s couch, springing up with a wad of brightly colored papers squeezed between her fingers. She held it in the air like it was the Holy Grail. Some smaller pieces rained down on her face and into her hair, but she paid it no mind as she hoped over a dislodged cushion to slam dunk her treasure into the nearest garbage can.
“Boo-yah!” she shouted. “Hope you weren’t attached to all that.”

REDECORATING
“You know, Loki, I don’t think I ask you for a lot.”
“You asked me not to take you in the shower just this morning. That was asking for quite a bit.”
“I try to be fair and calm and not lose my head over little things.”
“You don’t try quite as hard on that last one, I think.”
“But when I need you to do one thing for me, one very simple thing-”
“If this is about the competitor for your research grant that I sent away to the desert, I will not apologize.”
“-you decide to- wait, what? No, forget it. You decide to completely mess up my

ONLY THE LONELY
On Asgard, they throw one hell of a party.
They also have booze that would put Captain America under the table in four seconds.
(Jane knows. She’s seen it.)
For a five foot nothing, one hundred something pound woman to take so much as a sip, one could only assume that she had some kind of deathwish.
Jane didn’t have one of those (she hoped), but she had to admit, drinking down a pint of Asgardian ale was certainly helping her forget all about Thor and… and…
What was her name again?
Wow, this stuff was amazing. She couldn’t even remember who she was mad at!
It was that sword fighting woman, ri

PLAY THE GAME
Jane knew he was watching her; had been watching her since the party started.
Anywhere she happened to wander, he was always there: lost in a crowd; having a drink; waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs like a modern day Clark Gable.
She couldn’t really blame him for staring so long. Not to be vain, but she did look pretty damn good in this dress. It wasn’t her usual style (dresses on the whole typically weren’t), but it clung to what curves she had so well, making her look more filled out than she was. The dress was sleeveless, and fairly low cut. He wasn’t the only man to cast hungry eyes o

Jane didn’t know for how long they were driving, or how far out of the city they were. As she clung to Loki’s shirt in a desperate attempt to siphon heat off body heat, all she knew for sure was how much trouble they were in, and that they had to be on an unpaved road somewhere. Otherwise, she couldn’t account for the constant bumps under the tires.
They passed another one while making a turn, and the combined force of the sharp swerve and running over something had Jane falling into Loki’s arms. Her face was pressed into his neck, which reeked of an unholy combination of fresh cologne and drying blood. If she trie
